Are you sharp or flat? And if so, how can you get better?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This lesson will help you answer all of those questions and provide you with the perfect 5-minute daily routine to help develop your pitch and improve your singing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But first, a very important point\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You do not need to have perfect pitch!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perfect pitch is the genetic ability to hear a sound and immediately know what note it is. It\u2019s something you\u2019re either born with or you\u2019re not. And most people are not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Popstar Charlie Puth does have perfect pitch, as you can see in the video below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Charlie Puth&#039;s Perfect Pitch Got Him Suspended from School\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UoheTopppm4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption>Charlie Puth has perfect pitch, and it got him in trouble!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But for the rest of us mortals, it is absolutely possible to train and improve your pitch.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So let\u2019s get started!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>It helps to have an instrument<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We need a reference, so having a piano, a tuned guitar, or even a piano app on your phone will help a lot here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because we\u2019re going to play a note on the piano, and then try to match that note with our voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So if you play a middle C on the piano, you\u2019ll then try to <em>sing<\/em> a middle C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if it doesn\u2019t sound the same, that\u2019s ok! It\u2019s the entire reason for this lesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Try a few notes in your range, and notice how close your voice sounds to the pitch of the note on the piano (or guitar).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now comes the training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>You\u2019ll need a guitar tuner<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Bear with me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tuner is going to give you real-time feedback on whether you are sharp or flat, and you\u2019ll be able to see yourself moving closer to the note as you practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the video, Lisa uses an app called Tuner Lite, but you can use any guitar tuning app. There are so many.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, it\u2019s a simple matter of playing a note with your instrument, singing the note, and then looking at the tuner to see where your voice sits in relation to the note.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you flat?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then try and bring your pitch up a little bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you sharp?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Try and bring it down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tuner will show you exactly where your voice is in relation to the correct pitch. And then it\u2019s up to you to adjust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One other thing, don\u2019t ever expect to hold a note perfectly. Your vocal cords vibrate when you sing, and that oscillation causes slight changes in pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.singeo.com\/chorus\/sing-with-vibrato\/\">vibrato<\/a> comes from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So it\u2019s ok to be wavering up and down a little bit. The main thing is that you\u2019re close to the note you want to be close to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>This can take time<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One final thought. If you want to improve your singing pitch, it will take a bit of time and practice. This isn\u2019t something you\u2019ll do once and then be perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal should be to incorporate this into your daily routine.
