Vibrato is a singing technique that has a reputation for being super “advanced”. But vibrato can be achieved by all levels of singers with the right technique and balance.

In this lesson, you’ll discover how to set up your body and your voice so that vibrato will occur naturally, and to guarantee you don’t sound like a goat!

But first…

What is vibrato?

Vibrato is the slight variation of pitch that occurs when you sing a note. It’s kinda like a little wobble up and down.

Done correctly, it sounds beautiful and rich, and it adds so much texture and meaning to a song.

Probably the best example of vibrato in the world is from Whitney Houston and her epic performance of “I Will Always Love You”. Have a listen:

Whitney is the queen of vibrato

Notice how the pitch moves so slightly when she holds the notes. That is vibrato.

But you don’t have to be Whitney to get such a beautiful sound.

It’s all about balance

This is the biggest trick to vibrato. It will occur naturally if you’re singing with balance. Vibrato should not be a forced effect.

Balanced singing happens when you feel no strain or disconnect. You can sing without tension and you can maintain power.

So how do you do it?

You have to exercise.

Make sure you watch the video for 3 fantastic exercises to produce a beautiful, natural vibrato.

Happy singing!
