Especially as a beginner! Lucky for you, learning how to sing online can take a lot of the fear out of the process. Welcome to your 1st vocal lesson.
In this lesson, you’ll learn a little about your voice, including how to warm up, the exercises to use, and even how to sing a song.
Welcome to your first beginner voice lesson.
First things first: your vocal cords are two muscles. And just like any other muscle, it’s super important to warm them up. Warming up your voice will make it easier to sing, you’ll sound better, and you’ll have less chance of doing any damage.
So let’s warm up!
I find exercises the easiest and best way to warm up my voice. And because this is your first lesson, I want to show you my all-time favorite (and what I think is the best) exercise…
The Bubble is a funny name for an incredible exercise. You’ll be “blowing bubbles” with your lips, but what you’ll really be doing is finding the perfect balance of breath and muscle.
I can’t stress how important that is for singers.
So enough talk, let’s learn it:
Ok let’s get singing.
And I need you to trust me here, because I’m going to ask you to do something that might feel uncomfortable…
I want you to record yourself. I’m serious.
Because how you sound in your head is not the same as how you sound to other people. That’s because our bodies basically act like a big soundboard and resonates our voice. So to get an accurate idea of what you sound like, you’ll need to hit record.
And… spoiler alert…
You probably won’t like what you hear!
At least initially. And that’s COMPLETELY normal!! Pretty much everyone hates the sound of their voice when they first hear it. But you know what else?
It WILL get better.
Just like everything you practice, your voice will improve with time (and a bit of effort). Here’s another lesson that will help explain it a bit better.
When it comes to singing songs, there are a few key tips that will really help. One of the biggest ones is how you approach the vowels in the words. Make sure you watch the video at the top of this post to see what I mean (around the 8:01 mark).

In this lesson, you’ll learn how to approach a song and some really great tips to make it sound good!
Now, one final tip on learning to sing…
Singing is communication. You’re sharing something really intimate with another person. So you need to bring some energy and emotion.
Think about the song you’re singing, what’s it about?
Is it happy, or sad? A love song maybe?
Understanding the emotion behind the song will help you connect with it in a much deeper way, which will help you sing more honestly.
And that’s the most anyone can do.
